If you live in central Indiana, then you know how harsh the winter weather can get, especially in regards to skin. In order to remedy their dry and itchy skin, many people assume that the only option is to spend a large sum of money on various moisturizers. However, there are methods of combating dry skin that don’t involve moisturizer products. In fact, you might even be able to protect you skin with materials that you currently have in your home.

Here is a money saving cure for dry skin this winter.

Cold Cost Cure #1: Body Lotion

Body lotions containing lactic acid are excellent moisturizers. Brush your skin with the body brush and then apply an over-the-counter body lotion with lactic acid such as Amlactin. It is inexpensive and you will notice a significant difference within a week.

Cold Cost Cure #2: Olive Oil

Olive oil can be used to keep cuticles pliable. Bacitracin ointment, which can be purchased over-the-counter, can be applied to splint cuticles until they are healed. Carmex can then be used to keep the cuticles soft.

Mix together 1/4 cup of mil and 3/4 cup of water. Use a washcloth and apply to dry areas for 10-15 minutes. If your entire body is dry and itchy, add 1 cup of powdered milk to you bath and soak for 20 minutes.

Cold Cost Cure #4: DIY Lip Balm

Mix together 1 tablespoon of baking soda, 1 tablespoon of sugar, and 1 tablespoon of water. Apply the mixture aesthetically on lips and wait 3 minutes before rinsing off.
